3 Things That Set Our Richardson Co-Op Apart

A supportive, teacher-led learning day—built for families who want both flexibility and community.

When families start homeschooling, they usually want the same things:

  • A plan that feels sustainable

  • People who “get it”

  • And learning support that doesn’t replace the parent, but strengthens the whole experience

That’s what we’ve built at RHSA.

1) You don’t have to teach, but you’re still part of the day

One of the biggest surprises for new families is how relieving it feels to be in a learning environment where you’re not expected to jump in front of a class.

At RHSA, parents aren’t required to teach. For elementary students, a responsible adult stays on campus, which creates something many co-ops miss: real parent community.

Why that matters for your family:

  • You’re not isolated in your homeschool journey

  • Your kids see you connected and supported by other adults

  • You get to build friendships with people who understand this season of life, and the intentionality you’re putting into your children' s education

  • You become a partner in your child’s learning without carrying the full instructional load

It’s the best of both worlds: your child gets a classroom experience, and you get a consistent place to belong and receive support along your homeschooled journey.

2) A co-op feel, with teacher-led classes and flexible participation

Many programs make you choose between:

  • a co-op that’s warm and communal but relies heavily on parents teaching, or

  • a “school-like” setting that’s rigid and all-or-nothing

RHSA is intentionally different. We’re a resource designed to support homeschool families with core academics and electives—without taking over your role as the parent-educator.

What families love most is the flexibility:

  • You can enroll your student in one class or fill the whole day—whatever works for the season of life you’re in.

  • Many classes have open enrollment all year, which is huge if you’re starting mid-year or adjusting as you go.

And the classroom experience is real:While certification isn’t required, the majority of our teachers hold certification or higher education in areas they are passionate about.

This is especially helpful for parents who want:

  • stronger accountability and structure

  • experienced instruction in core subjects

  • a weekly rhythm that supports learning without burning everyone out

3) Community is built in—so “socialization” isn’t a stress point

If you’ve ever been told, “But what about socialization?”—you’re not alone.

At RHSA, connection isn’t an afterthought. We’re built to foster meaningful community alongside academics and enriching experiences for your children.

That shows up through:

  • social events that help friendships form naturally

  • coordinated enrichment opportunities (field trips, guest speakers, shared learning experiences)

  • a consistent weekly gathering that helps kids (and parents) build real relationships over time

And because RHSA serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade, families can often grow here for years—building long-term friendships and support. Another highlight of our homeschool community is that your kids aren’t limited to a single grade-level peer group. RHSA’s environment naturally creates multi-age friendships and learning moments—the kind that happens in real families and real communities.

Younger students get to observe how older kids participate in class, manage their materials, and engage with challenging work (which often raises their confidence faster than we expect). Older students get opportunities to practice leadership, kindness, and maturity—simply by being visible role models in the community. And for many kids, especially those who don’t instantly “click” with same-age peers, multi-age connection makes social life feel easier and more natural.

For parents, it also simplifies the weekly rhythm: one campus, one consistent day, one shared community—even when you’re homeschooling multiple children.
